Petrified Wood & Concretions

Petrified Wood Primarily From Woodbine And Lower Eagle Ford (Tarrant Formation) Border

Carbonized Wood

This piece of carbonized wood was pulled from a clay creek bank in Mansfield, where the Woodbine and Eagle Ford groups meet. My first experience with carbonized wood was seeing the piece crack into a million pieces after a couple of weeks of being exposed. So with this piece, I coated it with polyurethane to preserve it. Clam molds can be seen inside the wood, signs of ancient marine life living in the wood. THIS ITEM LIKELY HAS A SHELF LIFE OF 5-10 YEARS WITHOUT ADDITIONAL MEASURES/REAPPLICATIONS TO PRESERVE IT.

I am working on providing more listings given the collection of petrified wood that I have, but in the meantime, here's one of my personal favorites from Alvarado, TX.

RARE Polished Eagle Ford Wood, Pholad Clams

I have numerous pieces of this rare and beautiful petrified tree that once had pholad clams burrow into the wood after it had fallen into the Western Interior Seaway in the late Cretaceous timeframe when dinosaurs roamed the land and oceanic reptiles swam the seas. These pieces are polished on both sides, displaying beautiful crystals where the clams once occupied the space, and the wood is brilliant under 365 nm UV light as well.
