Frequently asked questions

Here are a few FAQs:

Can you ship internationally?

Yes, we can ship outside the USA. Email us for more info regarding shipping costs and process. We generally attach photos to make the contents clear for any attempts to inspect the package.

Can large ammonites be shipped?

Yes, though we prefer local pickup, since the shipping cost can comprise a large percentage of the total outlay for a buyer to acquire one that requires shipping.

Can orders of multiple items be grouped together to save on shipping costs?

Yes, our goal will be to ship items in the safest and most cost-effective manner possible for YOU as our customer. If you desire a greater number of certain items than is shown as being available, email us, we might have more inventory than is shown on the site.

Did you really find all of the fossils for sale on your site?

Yes, unless specifically noted on an item for sale, you can safely assume I was probably the first person on earth to touch the fossils shown on this site. I am willing to provide location specific data down to the county and specific formation, though I will not pinpoint specific locations for the sake of preserving the productive nature of the locales I frequent.

What preparation and cleaning goes into each fossil?

Any preparation involved in our fossils for sale will be disclosed in the item description. "Unprepped" implies the fossil was washed with soap and water and separated from matrix with minimal application of tools (such as lightly scraping off dirt or rock particles not part of the fossil). Prepped fossils sometimes involve air abrasive and air scribe tools to precisely separate the fossil from smaller, tougher matrix that is attached to the fossil. Sometimes fossils break upon initially removing them from nature. In these instances, I sometimes glue broken parts back together and I attempt to make the repairs invisible. Even in these cases, I will disclose such work in the item description. Echinoids are typically prepped by using an air abrasive system to blast off ancient sand stuck to the surface. Most of the preparation is done professionally by Mercer Brugler of FossilFactory.net, a great person and a great site with high-quality fossils for sale.
